Biased DATA everywhere

News headline this week was the decision of Arvind Krishna, IBM CEO, to stop the development or selling of facial recognition software.

The reason behind this decision is was due to the fact that based on the latest research it seems that the latest algorithms of facial recognition are trained using biased data on race and ethnicity.

With the latest protests in the USA and the Black Lives Matters, IBM decided this isn’t aligned anymore with their vision.

But there is more…

Do we want to talk about healthcare research based on biased data?

We do usually research and trials only on people that live in modern countries with different lifestyles… When we should include also people in poor or undeveloped countries which live in different conditions, economically and climatically.

The question, after all, is, how can we stop being biased in our actions?

BTW, your subconscious is biased and racial also, even if your beliefs may be totally non-biased, we grow in a biased society so we develop a biased subconscious.

The implicit-association test (IAT) is a measure within social psychology designed to detect the strength of a person’s subconscious association between mental representations of objects (concepts) in memory.
