Programming is like Talking
It seems that programming activates the same brain regions as talking. Whenever we read a piece of code we are using the same brain regions as natural language processing, therefore the same regions activated when we are talking.
It makes a little sense that as a programmer, in order to understand an easy read code, we must embed the “slang” into our cognitive system. We transform a programming language into a real language.
In the following study, Dr. Janet Siegmund used fMRI to scan programmers’ brains while they were reading snippets of code.
