The penalty for failing here (Silicon Valley), for going and trying to start a company in this Valley is nonexistent. There really isn’t the penalty for failure either psychologically or economically in the sense that, if you have a good idea and you go out to start your own company, even if you fail, you’re generally considered worth more to the company you left because you’ve gained all this valuable experience, in many disciplines. — Steve Jobs 0n some thoughts about Silicon Valley’s startup scene

I started this short article from a cut video from one of Steve Jobs interview while he was at Next, where he gave a little advice to young entrepreneurs, saying that if you are not passioned about something then get a 9–5 job and try to find what are you passioned about.

Why is this advice still very relevant even after a decade? Because this is still applying to nowadays entrepreneurs. How Steve says, if you are not passioned about something is hard to succeed as an entrepreneur because being an entrepreneur it consumes you 18 h per day, seven days per week and until you found the big success, you will be in big shitty situations where most of the people will quit. This is the difference between a successful entrepreneur and a failed one.

Quitting is easier than trying to escape from shit, so you need to choose wisely when you decide if being an entrepreneur it fits your personality and if you have enough determination to pass over all the obstacles. Is not easy, not everyone can do it, but the results are freaking amazing.

You are truly failing when you quit right when the hardness is installing, when you do not see any good progress, when your team is disappointed and they don’t find the power to rise and conquer. Those are the moments where a good entrepreneur is discovered. Those are the times when you need to put all your power into succeeding, when you need to realize what are you doing wrong and how you can start doing it right.

These are my thoughts about how Steve advice is still applying to nowadays entrepreneurship. Creating a startup is not easy, it’s a way of living your life. Think about working on something like a crazy robot, 10+ hours per day and you even know if that thing will succeed. This is an important aspect that you need to think before trying to go on this path. Do you have the strength to work on uncertain future?

Entrepreneurship is not about the money. Not the money are important, the impact that you are doing in the world is what should matter.
