The history of different habits is pretty fascinating. How some of our day to day tools/activities were born intrigues my mind.

I was reading the URL History article from Cloudflare about how the whole URL era was born.

As you may know, Cloudflare is one of the biggest web-infrastructure and website-security company in the world with top companies like Shopify, IMB, Zendesk and many many more are using it so if anyone could write a well-documented article about URL and internet in general than Cloudflare team is the one.

Then I’ve gone to a Reddit post discussing this article and one of the Redditors was sharing some nice information on how the domains are kept and how traffic is routed through these different domains like .com, .net, and so on.

So… when you are accessing medium.com, your traffic is routed through some datacenters before reaching medium’s servers.

Another topic of discussion in the internet era is why people kinda ditched the www. utilization when you access a website, back in the days you should have type www in order to access any website, now it is not into our habits to do it anymore.
www.yes-www.org is a good website that explains the role of www on both technical and non-technical point of view.

Fun FACTS

Fun fact: the first website is still online http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html

Fun fact: The inventor of the web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, was using a NeXT computer as the world’s first web server and also to write the first web browser, this also means Steve Jobs kinda helped on this one too.
